THE ESTATE
Vines grown on steep slopes, on slate and sandstone soils, in the municipality of Torroja del Priorat.
The climate is semi-arid Mediterranean continental, where the austere conditions drive the plant to express to the extreme the characteristics of the resulting wine.
BESSONS 2023 - LA VINYA DEL PI CUPATGE SEQUERA DOQ PRIORAT
Varieties: 40% Grenache, 40% Carignan, 20% Syrah. Aging: French oak barrels, new and one year old. Production: Limited, 2100 bottles. Vintage: Dry and warm year. Winemaker: Toni Sánchez-Ortiz
TASTING NOTE
Visual Phase: Deep cherry-red color with violet hues on the rim, bright, with high density and thick tears. Its chromatic intensity anticipates power and concentration.
Olfactory Phase: Clean and very expressive nose. Black fruit (blackberry, blueberry, ripe plum) stands out over a mineral background characteristic of Priorat. Hints of licorice and a subtle memory of undergrowth from ageing in French oak are also perceived. The higher proportion of Carignan and Syrah brings complexity, darker fruit and a sense of freshness.
Taste Phase: On the palate it is intense and structured. Lush, with ripe and present tannins, balanced acidity, and a profile marked by black fruit. Carignan reinforces tension and mineral character, while Syrah adds spicy and violet notes. Barrel ageing is well integrated, providing volume and a long, silky and persistent finish. It shows greater depth and freshness compared to the previous vintage.
